Like owning a lodge, but you don’t have to drive to it. Live in it! This unique home was custom built in 1981 by a home builder that wanted his home to be different than what he built every day for his clients. He owned a home in the mountains, but could not find time to use it. So, he built a lodge in Lutz.
With the use of cypress logs and beams the feel of “get away” hits immediately when one opens the door with a view of the circular stairway to the owner’s suite. The unique architectural use of the circular stairs along with the linework of beams brings an eye-catching impression to everyone that comes through the entry door.
But the architecture does not stop with the cypress logs, beams, and railing. The walls are covered with the rare “Pecky Cypress.” Less than 10% of harvested cypress yield Pecky Cypress. Natures method of random etching of the wood and placement of knots mesmerizes.
If the cypress wood is not enough to bring the outside in, there is the solarium adjoining the living room. The area surrounding the solarium is a combination of oaks and ferns as well as an area remaining is an empty canvas for the new owner’s green thumb. Or, leave it as natural.
Ready for a quiet getaway? Then one can enjoy the quiet solitude and privacy of the bonus room above the garage. The bonus room has both an exterior entry and interior. A room for creativity is the best way to describe it. Currently used as a recreation area with a pool table, it has also been a craft room and a business studio in the past. The design features a skylight glass area in the ceiling showing the warmth of the sun or the hypnotic feel of the rain. A more appropriate name than “bonus room” would be the imagination room.
The garage has its own reason to boast. It is not simply a 2 car garage. Additionally, there is a lot of storage. Plenty of shelves and cabinets to hold those treasures you always complain you want to get rid of. Another room is currently a hobby room that could be a craft room and the last room is a tool room with two long workbenches. Or, you have plenty of room for your own ideas!
What good is a lodge if it does not have an outdoors to enjoy along with it? The house rests on a little less than an acre of land that backs up to a conservation area. The eastern view of that area is filled with oaks, cypress and pine trees that filter the morning sun in a breathtaking view. The lot itself has its own unique trees that include fruit trees, oaks, cypress, and even a tasty papaya fruit tree.
